There’s a fascinating article in the Magazine of the New York Times about how Moroccan teenagers turn into Jihadis. It’s a long, but interesting read. If you’ve got time today, I advise you to read it in its entirety.
On page 13, I believe, a Jihadi-sympathizer is quoted. It never ceases to amaze me how extremists Muslims conveniently forget that the US didn’t just decide to attack Afghanistan: the US was attacked by Al Qaeda, which was supported by the Taliban, first. Then the US struck back. If there ever was a just war, it’s the war against the Taliban; they were given the opportunity to turn over Bin Laden. They refused. They got attacked.
The selective memory of extremists and fundamentalists, however, starts at September 12, 2001.
We see the same thing with Muslim immigrants who riot in Europe. When two North African immigrants rob a bank in Paris, then come out and start shooting at the police, after which the police shoots back and kills one of them, the other ‘youths’ living in Paris quickly forget that the robbing of the bank and shooting at the police part and act as if the police suddenly decided to shoot at their ‘brothers.’ Amazing.
Back to the article: the real problem is - of course - that the parents of these boys in Morocco forsake their duty. They should teach their sons about right and wrong. They should’ve taught them how to be peaceful and productive citizens. Instead, they allowed their children to radicalize.
They’ve got themselves to blame for the mess they’re in.
