H/t Andrew Sullivan - my review of his book The Conservative Soul will be published at Monsters and Critics Monday. As you can see, it will now also be published in a paperback edition. I hope it’ll sell well; it’s a book which should be read by all conservatives, centrists and, yes, liberals.

So the Southern Avenger suggests isolationism as a strategy for the GOP? You have to wonder, when he has so much admiration for an isolationist like Taft.
And something Kevin Drum (I think) brought up; back during his first term, wasn’t Bush considered an authentic conservative by the Right? I’ve heard suggestions that Bush’s conservative credentials have less to do with his actions overseas and elsewhere than this declining approval ratings. Was there anyone claiming that GWB was not a “true conservative” back in 2002 or 2003?
By some most definitely. But many people didn’t. You’ve never wondered why some conservatives turned against Bush when he enacted no child left behind?
Anyway, I don’t really care what some say and have said, if you look at what american conservatism used to stand for, it doesn’t take a boy genius to figure out that Bush is many things, but conservative isn’t one of them.
Interesting juxtaposition - he likes the confederate flag and loves the United States.
