Finally, an issue that all Americans can rally around courtesy of Rick Perlstein:Â
I just was a guest on Mike Feder’s show SIRIUS Satellite Radio show and learned something deeply, deeply offensive.
The liberal channel is called “SIRIUS Left.”
The conservative channel is called “SIRIUS Patriot.”
SIRIUS Satellite Radio doesn’t think you’re patriotic. This is an obscenity.
Hmm… “obscenity” isn’t the word that came to mind for me. The word “hysterical” came to mind. In fact, I very nearly did a spit take when I discovered what constituted a grave enough crime to “deeply, deeply” offend Mr. Perlstein. I wonder if he spends his time writing letters of protest to the DMV every time a road sign asks him to “Keep Right.”
Maybe I shouldn’t be so dismissive of Perlstein’s “logic” here. It could certainly come in handy. For example, if I don’t like something ABC broadcasts I could complain they are offensive…. excuse me, I mean deeply, deeply offensive, because they imply in their very name that they and only they are Americans. “How dare they,” I would proclaim in high moral dudgeon, “to self identify themselves in a manner I would like to be self identified!”
Of course, I hardly need to add, real patriotic Americans would be baseball fans and thus have subscriptions to XM not Sirius.
Mr. Perlstein & his nutroot moonbattery of support—a certain Taylor Marsh who regularly calls Patriots “wingnuts,” hence my appellation of her own stance—have insta-froth capabilities as far as their collective mouths are concerned.
I was surprised that they regard anything at all as an obscenity.
Except those who differ from their nanny-state agenda, of course.
But sex for them is completely non-obscene, in all its polymorphous perverse permutations.
I consider excluding liberals from the category “patriot” obscene because it suggests we are a second class of citizens. If I suggested you were not a patriot just because you were a conservative, I should hope that you are proud enough to be an American–as I am–for those to be fighting words.

Second, C’mon!!!!!!! So, were they to have labelled the station the “Mom and Apple Pie Channel” that would mean the left wing prefers fathers and, oh I don’t know, borscht? What in the world works that way?
Now you can complain about the station managers who couldn’t come up with anything more original than “SIRIUS Left” but that is a very different kettle of fish and nothing to get offended by.

Yes, it is. There is nothing perverse about C-stuff kept personal. It can be unaestethic, yes, but never a perversion of something truer, and not obscene as in affronting in existence.
