Jules Crittenden on the firing of Don Imus: “An apology probably should have sufficed for saying something stupid, unfunny and defamatory. Not that I want to defend Don Imus. He should have been fired years ago for his colossal body of stupid, unfunny work on an unlistenable show.
One of my favorite Kurt Vonnegut stories was the one about mandatory handicaps,* and the grotesque ballet of dancers wearing weights so they wouldn’t be more graceful than anyone else. That is where we are headed. Safety helmets, kneepads, blacked-out see-no-evil goggles and gags all around.”

hard to disagree.
He was the DJ that enough people wanted to hear. That was evident by the number of listeners his show provided.
I personally - think people should have stopped listening to him years ago. I didn’t see any value his show added for me to listen to him.
This case is like an onion - layer upon layer.
To me, it does make a difference that the inslut was directed at a particular group of girls. This is different than an insult in a comedy adt, say, where the target isn’t a real person. I’m not at all sure what that difference implies, though.
I was also alarmed to hear that the girls are now receiving hate mail. So, the repercussions are fanning out in many directions..
Now there are questions being raised about the future of Imus’s charities.
So many layers. It’s hard to foretell what will come of it.
